Pope Leo XIII

Via the motu proprio Ut mysticam (14 March 1891), Pope Leo XIII re-founded the Vatican Observatory so that “everyone will clearly see that the Church and her Pastors, far from being opposed to true and solid science, whether human or divine, embrace, encourage and promote it with all the zeal that they can muster.”
